Fabric turmoil generated by Mark Van Gennip

There’s a storm brewing but don’t look to the skies for it, have a glance at your own clothes for this one. The type of storm that we are talking about here was created by the talented young designer Mark Van Gennip who, without any kind of rain dance or strange ritual has opened up the skies and created a downpour of multicoloured robes.
“Ink Storm” is the perfectly suited title of Mark’s creations, which are not at all bad for a recent graduate of the University of Eindhoven. His creation can only be described as an animated robe, brought to life by the vibrant digitally enhanced print detail of what look like multicoloured random ink explosions.
Mark is also known for his degree project “The Larva and The Toadstool”. For this, he created a series of items based on the theme of ‘the identity of mankind’ featuring toad shaped chairs, motifs for rugs and masks made out of a material that is still pretty unheard of in design: memoryfoam.
The result is a series of dynamic objects, which look like they are in the growth or larval stage of metamorphosis.
