Within the shell of femininity
There's something magnetic about the rigid skeletons that support women's dresses. You'll remember Harvey Keitel in “The Piano”, attempting to touch the leading lady, trapped in her cage-like skirt. In Julia Kranz's “Shell” collection as well, the dress is the projection of the body and of the desires it arouses.
Julia Krantz presented her collection, “Shell”, as her Degree project from the HDK School of Design in Goteborg, Sweden.
According to the young Swedish designer, craftsmanship and narrative, history and memory liaise with the needs and desires of the present to unleash new visions to project into the future.
In her latest collection, translucent fabrics are draped over a broad metallic structure inspired by the human body, its organs, its symmetries, but also by accessories such as masks and protective devices.
The new skeletal silhouette was deformed and widened following the outlines of the body, in pursuit of new weights and directions, starting from the most essential design of femininity: a woman's figure.
