Casa del Nido Ospre, contrasts reconciled

High mountain peaks, desert landscapes, golden beaches and coral reefs. Mexico is a land brimming with natural contrasts. Jones Studio amplifies the play of opposites in the architecture of Casa del Nido Ospre (literally, osprey nest house).

We’re in Puerto Peñasco, in Sonora, overlooking the Gulf of California. The contours of the undulating dunes dance on the horizon with the foaming sea. The sky looks like a blue palette awaiting the fiery colours of sunset.

This is where Jones Studio, Phoenix (Arizona) designed a villa similar to an enchanted fortress featuring simple lines and imposing volumes. A row of majestic arches casts shadows over the sand, tracing the outlines of guardians that protect the soil against the scorching heat.

Laid out to mirror the sparse vegetation, the iron sculptures that decorate the villa, in honour of the nests built by the osprey, a fish-eating bird of prey that lives along the local coastline.
