A year with the Gothic fairytales of Tejal Patni
One fashion fairytale a month, in a dark and surreal atmosphere that recalls Georges Mélies's silent films. Add the tension of Gothic opera music and you get the 2011 limited edition calendar of Tejal Patni.

It was Splash, a fashion brand retailer from Dubai, who commissioned the young Indian photographer and advertising graphic designer, Tejal Patni, the limited edition of its 2011 calendar. Splash is also an online store with an assortment of high-ranking international brands that specifically focuses on the tastes of the Middle Eastern public.

To narrate an obscure but elegant anthology of the year in progress, Patni partnered with the New York photographer and stylist Kirsten Hermans, who specialises in theatre costumes.

The result is a contamination of eras and fairytale languages, Gothic atmospheres and post-apocalyptic spectres. A surreal, dreamlike theatricality, where time stands still, and condenses in the moment, fascinating yet at the same time as black as tar. A prelude to a nightmarish 2012? Maybe. We only notice here the absence of the subliminal sweetness of an aficionado of the dark tales such as the great Tim Burton.
