Fredrikson Stallard, design as alchemy
A blend of pop culture and intelligentia, fine craftsmanship and mass consumerism. Retailers adore their revisionist taste and their clients love the alchemy of knowing how to fuse gold and fluff, past and future.

Yes, because the raw material is at the core of all the work by Patrick Fredrikson (Swedish) and Ian Stallard (British). As in the laboratory of a skilled alchemist, all the components are kept a safe distance apart to find in the end product a synthesis that alters their original DNA.

Fredrikson and Stallard began their adventure in 1995 at Central Saint Martins in London. They launched the Fredrikson Stallard brand in 2005, which brought them to international fame and won them a place in the new wave of British design.

Computerised Swarovski ceiling lamps, tables sculpted like slabs of ice or tumultuous golden clouds, carpets that imitate Rorschach's inkblots and oil leaks, steel chairs hammered by hand by Aston Martin builders.

These are the eccentric and precious works that they have produced for the great brands of contemporary design. It is a long list, and it includes Contrast Gallery, Swarovski, Droog Design, Chanel, The Design Museum and more still. Their work has been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London.
