Lights in the Eternal City by Renato Cerisola

Eyes turned to the Eternal City, I’m not the only one to follow its early morning trail across the backbone of bridges, beyond the rivers that run into the sea.
Silently still, where horses have trotted along the streets where the crowns of great Kings have sparkled, climbing the hilly path from Campidoglio towards the royal gates of Quirinale. Its femininity is evident. I lose myself in the shapes and folds and details capture me in a reliquary of crystal. Who will free me from this?
The voices of pedestrians slowly rise from the streets. They will not be the ones to make me forget my journey. Epigrams sing from the walls of the city and I float through the air. Imperial mouths flow like never-ending rivers. And, the reflection of their song only adds to the atmosphere. A final glimpse of light before sunset. She is still running and as the night bewitches the day, I realise that two headlights are about to reveal the eternal beauty of Rome.
