Amangiri Hotel, luxury open plan

“In the future, luxury will be open plan”. Not what you'll find in New York attics, but in the region of the Four Corners, between the Utah desert and Arizona. According to the developer, Bernt Kuhlmann.

Designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape, one of the largest American national parks, the Amangiri hotel facility (part of the Aman Resorts chain) is in full proportion to the size of the surrounding nature, consisting of the troughs of Canyon Point and the stratified rocks leading to the Grand Staircase.

In the middle of nowhere, in touch with nature alone, the architecture of the Amangiri is not associated with any local culture. The project developers in fact believed that the Southwest desert already had an identity ascribable to minimalism, to a purist essence.

Three architects were involved in the project: Marwan Al-Sayed, Rick Joy and Wendell Burnette. The result of their efforts, after ten years of work from 1999 to 2009, is a structure similar to the very rare desert seashell, with a majestic exterior and warm and welcoming interiors.
