Andrew Majtenyi’s latest collection for AW 2013
An aristocratic guardian of hyperspace monitors the cosmos from the atrium of a large spaceship. It’s the woman of Andrew Majtenyi’s latest collection for AW 2013, inspired by the salt labyrinths of Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto.
The fashion designer charges his garments with a theatrical and sci-fi atmosphere, starting from the texture, color, and feel of a fabric, instead of from the usual sketch.
Colors and yarns that create a contrast of opacity and brightness. Futuristic 3D silhouettes with big, armored shoulders, tight capes, and prints with a medieval feel, such as the chainmail-like pattern.
With a chromatic palette that spans from metallic tones of gray and black to warmer hues like orange and even gold, Majtenyi accessorizes each look with trendy elements like leather leggings and leg warmers.
The pieces designed by Andrew Majtenyi include theatrical influences that stem from his experiences with master tailor Vincenzo Cardone, with Madame Sophie, and working for the National Ballet of Canada with Santo Loquasto.
