Accepting one’s fate can be liberating. The problem is finding one’s path while zigzagging between modern neuroses. We have discovered that observing Tina Vlassopulos’ work can help. Here are her pots for "contemplation". There is a lightness fraught with energy in Tina’s pieces. The same delicacy of a dancer whose musculature developed through time and effort sustains his every step. The sculptural simplicity of her vases hides a complex process of working ceramic, which is constantly stressed almost to the point of breaking when Tina burnishes the shapes by hand. Produced in her small studio in London, each piece is the result of heat-resistant earthenware that is fired at extremely high temperatures and finished with a thin layer of glaze that gives it an ivory effect. Tina Vlassopulos, born in England in 1954, displayed her work for the first time in Athens in 1980. A member of the Crafts Council, she has won numerous International awards and held various exhibitions, among which at Victoria and Albert Museum and Royal College of Art in London.
